What I've Been Up To This Summer

Some may have noticed the lack of posts and activity on my blog lately. There has been a huge gap between each blog post which is something I am trying to improve. This Summer has been so hectic but I never wanted to neglect 'All Things Holly'. I have been doing some thinking and decided to make my blog a little more personal. As well as doing the usual product reviews and make-up looks, I want to move more towards the fashion side of things whilst also keeping you up to date on whats going on.

At the beginning of Summer, most of you know I was caught up with school and the Leaving Cert. Those of you that have finished school and completed your exams will know that it is NOT a fun time. It's a lot of stress for a piece of paper especially when you don't see yourself as a very academic person like myself. There is always ways around getting to where you want to be in life and no exam results can stop you. 'Whats for you won't pass you' as they say! I was lucky enough to find out that I had my course a few weeks before I even sat the exams which did take some of the pressure off but it still wasn't very enjoyable.. I never liked school.

As one chapter of my life ended another page had turned. School was out for good and I now had to think about what I was going to do next. There wasn't many opportunities for me in Bailieborough so I decided to make a big move up to Dublin to live with my sister and go on the search for my first job. Earlier in the year I had signed up as a volunteer to work in the bar at gigs and festivals. These included Arcade Fire, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, Longitude and Electric Picnic so as you can imagine I was very excited. I thought getting into a gig for free in return for working a few hours was so worth it but it was tough work. The travel was also costing me a fortune and I just couldn't afford it anymore.. My boyfriend's aunty ended up getting us promoted to paid bar staff which allowed us to stay. Even though we worked long hours, I loved the job. Working with people (even if they are drunk) is something I love doing. Electric Picnic was definitely my fave. The laid back atmosphere and the hippy/boho scene was amazing. Not to mention, the music was unreal! I'll be making it my priority to get tickets next year.

Unfortunately, this wasn't enough and each concert had a huge gap between each other meaning I had to continue my search for a proper job. I swear I applied for over 100 places handing in C.V.s to every shop I passed. It wasn't very reassuring hearing 'Well have you experience?' and me answering with a no every time. I really wanted to turn around and ask them how do they expect me to have any experience when no where will take me on.. Everyone has to start somewhere but I had no say. I just had to sit and wait.

Not long after, debs time was upon us. I prepared well in advance and had a ball at both my own and my boyfriend's debs but after five, I think I'm well and truly done. You can find out all about them here (boyfriend's debs) and here (my debs).

With all the free time I was able to concentrate more on my blog. I felt great! More companies were getting behind me sending me samples to try out and review, I had blogger events coming up and I was getting more and more followers each day. I was on a roll but this had to come to an end and sacrifices had to be made. I got a call for an interview for W.H. Smith in the airport. I went and got told on the spot that I got the job. I was delighted but I was working 4 to 5 days a week. I wasn't able to attend any of the blogger events I had been invited to and I was too tired so wasn't able to stay up and write blog posts. I love blogging so I didn't like the way things were happening but I had to appreciate the fact I had a job in todays climate.

I've been working in W.H. Smith for nearly two months and my contract came to an end. I didn't particularly enjoy the job so was glad to be finished on that part. I have another interview tomorrow for a job in the fashion and retail sector so fingers crossed! It is something I've always wanted, not as a life long career, but as an experience. Stay tuned and I'll reveal all. Hehe! If I do get it, it will only be part time as I am starting college in a week.

Some may or may not know that I am going to be studying make-up and beauty in Blackrock. It seems like a fantastic course and will definitely be blogging about my college experience. I can't wait!

So as you can see it has been a busy few months. I have gone from one chapter to another and I'm now in the BIG BAD WORLD! It's scary but I'm excited to see what will come of the future. I feel I have rambled on a bit.. I feel like I'm writing a diary. My bad! Hehe!

Its something a little different but I hope you enjoyed it. Why not get in touch? Mwah!
